TREASURE IN EARTHEN VESSELS

Treasure in Earthen Vessels is about the Treasure I've found in the Scriptures. And since Yahshua is the treasure in all of Scripture; then this blog will be about Him through the various prophets and events that have transpired in times past. (2Cor.4:6,7) And since we (the followers of Yahshua) are the earthen vessels; then this blog will also be about the knowledge I've personally gain from studying Him.

I'd like to begin with a favorite passage of Scripture found in Hebrews 1:1-4. I love this passage so much that I've committed it to memory and love to repeat it often. I invite all who read this blog to comment and share what you've learned in studying Yahshua as well.

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

about Verse 1:

The very first knowledge I gain from this verse is this; That YHWH is the author of Redemption. This I've learned as a result of asking the question why is YHWH speaking to humanity? The answer: "God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself,...." "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

If YHWH (God) had chosen not to give us His only begotten Son than there would be no Gospel, no glad tidings no salvation.  Now we learn further that YHWH "at sundry time" meaning " by many times and in many ways" [according to Strong's G4181 definition of the transliterated word polymeros spake in time past (a clear reference to the Torah and the Prophets [OT]) unto the fathers by the Prophets. Since "the fathers" spoken of here refers to "father Abraham" and all the heirs of the covenant made with him; then all today who are in Messiah are also included in the family of YHWH and therefore we are sons of the "fathers" (see Lk.1:73;Acts 7:2;Rom.8:15-17;Gal.3:29) Those who lived before Abraham are here also including seeing that Abraham himself paid a tithe to Melchisedec and the former is greater than the later. (Heb.7:7)

About Verse 2:

1. These are the last days and:
2. In these last days YHWH (God) has spoken unto us by His Son
3. That Yahshua was appointed by YHWH to be the heir of ALL THINGS because;
4. Through Him (Yahshua) the worlds were created and through Him the worlds have been made eternally secure; seeing that " And being made perfect, he(Yahshua) became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;(Heb.5:9) (Heb.11:3) (Nahum 1:9);(Col.1:20).

I must pause at this point to share several things regarding such a sublime portion of Scripture:

We must approach these Scriptures with a heart of humility and prayer. In this manner we will discover that we are looking into the mind of YHWH (or from His perspective and not our own). Hence when YHWH says that "...in these last days" He is speaking from His point of view and not ours. Now YHWH has clearly shown us the things that will happen from the beginning. (See Isa. 46:10) Therefore to understand the end we must understand the beginning.  "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. For a thousand years in thy sight [are but] as yesterday when it is past, and [as] a watch in the night."(2Pet.3:8;Ps.90:4) We know from Genesis that YHWH made the earth in six literal days; and on the seventh He rested. (Gen.2:1-3) He has therefore given man six thousand years to work and then comes the jubilee, when all the earth should rest.

"For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us"(2Cor.4:6,7)

  1. Hi Yuri,
Yes, I agree with you. Hebrews 1:1-4 is a potent passage of Scripture. I like how you organized the study. The title of this blog and this post was of particular interest to me because it corresponds with the logo on my book which I speak about in the introduction and comes from the same passage (2 Cor. 4:7).

I am in full agreement with you that the Scripture clearly states that God made creation in six literal days and rested on the seventh day. Though, I cannot fully agree with your conclusion that because the creation account in Genesis is literal that 2 Peter 3:8 or Ps.90.4 are intended to be literal. The language used, I don't believe, is literal, but metaphoric. It's descriptive of the vast difference between our understanding and God's. That's why "like" NIV)or "as" (KJV) is used. It's not unlike the anthropomorphism used in Psalms 91:4 that likens God's covering or "arms" to "feathers" and "wings."

I think it might be more accurate to refer to the likeness in similar terms as the text rather than a conclusive time period.

It was great catching up and reading your blog. I thank God for your faithfulness.

    The Lord (Yahshua)be with you.

    Shalom!

  2. Hi Beverly,

Thanks for visiting here and commenting. I respect the fact that you disagree with certain positions taken and have a reason for it. Many disagree and do not, or will not say why.

I have a question for you. What is the approx. time between creation and Yahshua coming as a Babe in Bethlehem?

Again thanks for your comment and ....Shalom In Yahshua.
