The Right Hand of YHWH (A Study)

Shalom In Yahshua Messiah and welcome once again to our series of teachings in the Tehillim or Psalms. We are studying the 118th division.

In our last study we contemplated the pure and elevated thanksgiving and praise that surrounds the Ancient of Days and Yahshua His only begotten Son. We learned what true praise and thanksgiving is and had set before us a model of what our praise, thanksgiving and worship to YHWH should be continually approaching. click here for introduction

Our attention is now drawn to the next three verses, namely: Ps.118:5-8.

I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, [and set me] in a large place. The LORD [is] on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see [my desire] upon them that hate me.

Having the text set before us let us carefully examine them in the light of Yahshua's countenance.

1. Question: Who is it that is calling upon Yahweh in distress? Is it David.....period?
Do we have any clues or other relevant information in this Psalm which may furnish us with a solid answer?

Let us consider verse 10. All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them. (11) They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. (12) They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

Who, other than David does the Scriptures point out as being compassed about by their enemies?

Many bulls have compassed me: strong [bulls] of Bashan have beset me round.(Ps.22:12) (16) For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet

Here is the first evidence that someone other than David is being referred to. This individual had the wicked inclosing them or encompassing them and their hands and feet where pierced.

Our next evidence we'd like to consider is found in Ps. 118:15,16:  The voice of rejoicing and salvation [is] in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantlyThe right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.

Here we find the term "the right hand of YHWH". What; or more precisely who is "the right hand of YHWH?

Psa. 20:6-----right hand =saving strength
Psa. 48:10-----'right hand=full of righteousness
Psa. 89:13-----right hand= strong arm
Isa. 53----------right hand=arm=He was wounded for transgressions and was bruised for our iniquities
Isa.53----------right hand =arm [from psa.89]=Lamb to the slaughter
Psa.98:1-------right hand=holy arm=victory
Psa.110:1------right hand=One whose enemies will be made His footstool.
Mat.26:64------right hand=position of power given the Son of Man
Mk.16:19-------sits at the right hand of YHWH
Acts 2:25------right hand according to King David=The Lord
Acts 7:55------right hand according to Stephen=Yahshua
Rom.8:34-----right hand according to Paul = Messiah
Eph.1:20------right hand according to Paul= Messiah
Heb.1:3-------right hand = Messiah
Heb.8:1-------right hand= High Priest
Heb.12:2-----right hand = Author and finisher of our faith =Yahshua

Therefore we conclude our second set of evidence.

The third and final set of evidence we look carefully and prayerfully at is Psa.118:16,19 &22:

The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, [and] I will praise the LORD:The stone [which] the builders refused is become the head [stone] of the corner.

From the verses of Scripture before us we see the following:

1. The Right Hand of YHWH is exalted-----Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:(Phl.2:9)
2.  The Right Hand of YHWH is exalted-----Him hath God exalted with his right hand [to be] a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. (Acts 5:31)
3. The Right Hand of YHWH is exalted-----This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. (Acts 2:32,33)
4. It was prophesied that the Right Hand of YHWH will have the gates of Righteousness opened to Him at His exaltation/coronation-----Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.Who [is] this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift [them] up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come inWho is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he [is] the King of glory. Selah.(Ps.24:7-10)
5. The Right Hand of YHWH is also The Stone which the builders refused that became the head Stone of the corner.-------Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? (Mat.21:42) And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone];(Eph.2:20) To whom coming, [as unto] a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, [and] precious,Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.Unto you therefore which believe [he is] precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,(1Pe.2:4-7)

We therefore conclude that the Right Hand of YHWH is none other than Yahshua the Messiah. And He; not David is the principle august Personage to whom the prophet gave witness.

We deem it vitally important to have this pointed out so as not to come short of any teaching that may not get  our attention in this passage (Ps.118). For the remainder of this teaching will hinge upon this very important central teaching; which is .......YAHSHUA the Right Hand of YHWH who brings to us salvation and strength and honor and riches and blessings both now and forever. For, He hath made us to be inheritors with Him; as He has received this commandment of His Abba and our Abba. Amein and Amein.

Until next time........shalom and Ahava In Yahshua.

  1. What an exciting study of the right hand of God! I didn't even know there were that many references in the Bible about that. So often you hear people refer to certain passages in Psalms as applying to the Lord Jesus Christ, rather than simply to Kind David, but they never take the time to explain why that is so. You have so carefully and clearly explained why Psalm 118:5-8 is referring to Jesus the Messiah by simply bringing other portions of Scripture to light. Amazing! How could anyone argue that? Thanks for sharing this beautiful Psalm with us
